NPHC Gives Back For the Holidays

November 4, 2009 by David Daniels

The five fraternities and sororities on campus that make up the National Pan Hellenic Council have joined together in an effort to begin a toy drive and donation campaign to will benefit needy families for the upcoming holiday season.

Alpha Phi Alpha, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Delta Sigma Theta and Phi Beta Sigma have established a strong presence individually on campus through their respective events, weeks and programs. Known for their strong community service activities already, these organizations have found it imperative to spearhead a campus-wide Toys 4 Tots campaign. They have also set up a parallel donation campaign to provide a needy family with a Thanksgiving meal. Additionally, they will assist our armed forces in collecting toys for children in the Huntsville community.

The month-long campaign will begin on Nov. 9 and will end on Nov. 23. Every Monday and Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the University Center lobby, various representatives from each of the NPHC organizations will be present with boxes for students, faculty, and staff to drop a toy in. There is no limit on the amount of toys or price of toy.

Those who are not able to purchase a toy can donate a dollar or two toward the family that NPHC has sponsored for Thanksgiving. All proceeds will go towards making this family’s holiday season a little brighter.

Whatever is in your heart to give this season, remember to do so with the NPHC and their Toys 4 Tots and Thanksgiving dinner campaign before the semester winds down. A little bit can go a very long way to a family in need.
