SGA to Hold a Forum on New Housing Policy

November 4, 2009 by Lisa Barbella

The SGA Senate held their weekly general meeting to discuss upcoming events on November 2nd 2009 in U.C. room 131.

Joel Lonergan, Director of Affinity Marketing and Business Sponsorships at UAH, spoke to the Senate about volunteer opportunities in the community. The senate expressed their interest in participating in volunteer projects to strengthen the group’s solidarity and give back to the community. Lonergan explained the public relations and networking benefits of volunteering for both the SGA and the University. Although the SGA cannot legally donate University money because it comes from state funding, he suggested they donate time to organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, United Way, and the University Place School. He also suggested utilizing University resources such as facilities and lighting and sound equipment to co-sponsor events with charitable organizations or businesses.

SGA President Andrew Hazen announced that John Maxon, Associate VP of University Housing, will attend the next Senate meeting to discuss the new housing policy, which requires all freshmen and sophomores to live on campus. The meeting will serve as a forum for students who have questions or concerns about the policy. All students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members are invited to attend the meeting, which will be held on Monday, November 9th at 8:45 pm in U.C. room 131.
